Although it's difficult to imagine nowadays, years ago, people used to dispose of all kinds of waste straight into the ocean, including household garbage and even old cars, resulting in large quantities of glass being dumped.

However, over the next 30 years, the relentless waves relentlessly pounded the beach, breaking down everything except the glass and pottery.  As a result, the waves washed the trash up and down, back and forth, creating tons of polished, broken glass pieces.

These smooth, colored glass fragments then settled along the seashore in millions, and this is why the north shore beaches of Aruba are home to these stunning and colorful pieces.

The ruby red glass stones are typically from old car tail-lights.  Then, the sapphire rocks are the remnants of broken apothecary bottles.

The most common and the easiest to find are the brown (Amstel & Polar beer), green (Heineken & Balashi beer) and clear glass which are the much loved “soft drink” bottles.

Best part?

You can take the sea glass home with you, unlike the seashells!
