Let’s talk about packing for Aruba—because if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably overpacked at least once (or, let’s be real, every time). Even when we stayed for two to three months, I still brought way too much, convinced I needed options. But after repacking untouched outfits at the end of each trip, I finally had a realization: this is dumb.
So for this next trip, I had a come-to-Jesus moment with my suitcase, took a hard look at what I actually wear daily, and committed to packing smarter, not like I’m moving to Aruba permanently. Although, that would be amazing:)

Carry-On Only? Almost!
We try to travel carry-on only, but since sunscreen in Aruba is ridiculously expensive, and we go through a lot of it! Especially when we don't have a base tan when we arrive, like this trip. We usually check one small bag to bring enough for our stay. This stay, it's 21 bottles. lol. Twenty one bottles of spray sunscreens! And remember guys-please make sure your sunscreen that you bring is oxybenzone and octinoxate free.
Why Packing Light Works in Aruba
We typically stay in Airbnbs, which means washer and dryer access—a total game changer. Doing laundry mid-trip lets you pack less, re-wear favorites, and avoid suitcase chaos.
This is especially ideal if you’re staying at more than one place during your trip—less stuff = less packing and hauling it around. This time, we’re staying at four different places, so staying organized and light will be key. The less I have to repack and drag around, the happier I’ll be!
Plus, Aruba is super casual. I’ve noticed I live in swimsuits, cover-ups, and comfy clothes way more than I wear anything dressy. We also cook at home a lot, so I don’t need a ton of “going out” outfits. And even when we do eat out, most places in Aruba are laid-back and beachy—no heels required!

What I’m Packing for 16-23 Days in Aruba
(Because my Boyfriend is Already Talking About Extending… Again 😂 As usual)
All in a carry-on + small checked bag (because sunscreen!):

✔️ FLOAT/Water hammock (a must!)
✔️ 5 swimsuits (because let’s be real, you’ll live in them)
✔️ 3 cover-ups
✔️ 2 nice pair of shorts for dinners
✔️ 3 tops to mix & match
✔️ 3 dresses (2 long, 1 short)
✔️ 3 workout sets (shorts + tanks)
✔️ 5 t-shirts
✔️ 4 pairs of casual/athletic shorts
✔️ 1 pair flip-flops
✔️ 1 pair tennis shoes
✔️ 1 clutch + crossbody
✔️ 1 water bottle holder
Full disclosure: I also have 3 pairs of sandals + a small purse waiting for me in Aruba—aka my Target flats permanently filled with sand😂. We also have our snorkel gear that we keep on the island as well!
I’m also bringing some filming gear, but keeping it minimal: chargers, tripod, two lights, two mics, a gimbal, and a drone.
What My Boyfriend Packs (AKA the Easiest Packing List Ever)
The guy keeps it simple:
✔️ 10ish identical white t-shirts
✔️ 6 identical shorts in 4 different colors
✔️ 3 white hoodies (for fishing)
✔️ 1 pair flip-flops
✔️ 1 pair tennis shoes
✔️ 2 hats
✔️ 1 swimsuit (yep, just one! 😂)
✔️ 2 collared shirts for nicer dinners (which he still wears with flip-flops, naturally)
What People Actually Wear in Aruba
Aruba is all about comfort and island vibes. While there are a few upscale restaurants where you might want to dress up a bit, you don’t need to go over the top—just keep it effortless and breezy.
And speaking of breezy, remember—it’s hot and windy! Lightweight, breathable fabrics are your best friend, and flowy outfits will keep you cool while embracing that laid-back island feel.

👗 Ladies:
Sundresses, cute resort wear from Amazon, capris with a tank or flowy top, and flat or wedge sandals are perfect for dinners. If you chill easily or sunburn, a light shawl might be a good idea—but personally, I’m never cold in Aruba! 😆 And for lunch? A swimsuit cover-up is totally acceptable almost anywhere, so you can go straight from the beach to a bite to eat with no worries!
👕 Men:
Shorts, t-shirts, and a collared shirt for dinner are all you need. Maybe a belt if you’re feeling fancy, but honestly, flip-flops are totally fine for dinner too! 😆 During the day, swim trunks and a t-shirt or tank top are perfectly acceptable at most places, so you can go straight from the beach to lunch without a second thought. Easy, casual, and island-ready!
Final Thoughts
Packing for Aruba is all about keeping it light, comfortable, and practical. You’ll probably wear the same favorite pieces over and over, so focus on versatility and leave the extra stuff at home. And if you do forget something? No worries—there are plenty of places to shop on the island!
What’s one thing you always bring to Aruba? Let me know in the comments! 🏝️✨

We always bring insulated water bottles, towel clips, beach bag, books and small baggies of my favorite spices for when we could in our timeshare.
